“Little Girl Gloves” Ellen Greene 2012 These were full sized gloves that were painted with my tattoo inspired designs then dipped in hot beeswax. The gloves began to shrink when they made contact with the hot wax, shrinking the painted image and every aspect of the gloves down to a miniature scale. Each approx 4” high.

“Gloves, Blame Her, for Cori Winrock” By Ellen Greene 2012
Inspired by my dear friend Cori Winrock, and her poem :
Gloves, Blame Her:
As if everything inside a glass case: the register
your voice not on top but across the room. Gloves
like a white picket fence. Curtain parting. Cross
the room I say. You say. Wife
Do not take care to not leave fingerprints.
We reach for each other as if compelling
the gloves to slip
I’ve been trying a tell to tell
you: I’ve been taking off in slow motion: I’ve been
pin-hole-exposed for days-with
holding the syllable, As if a gloved gun
chloroform or silk over my vowed mouth.

Today is the first warm day of the year where most of my tattoos are visible. Today I morph into the “tattooed” lady. Gazes change, children point, I become a show- I wish I could charge admission….
”There is a charge/ For the eyeing of my scars, there is a charge/ For the hearing of my heart—/ It really goes./ And there is a charge, a very large charge/ For a word or a touch/ Or a bit of blood/ Or a piece of my hair or my clothes.” -Sylvia Plath

These gloves are dipped in wax and then painted with tattoo inspired images with oil paints. They are then mounted on steel posts and set on a custom steel table.
The title “Evil Woman” is a pop culture euphemism for a promiscuous woman. A negative term attached to female sexual expression used to inspire shame for a woman who does not conform to conservative social standards. By Ellen Greene 2011.

“What interests me is the conquering of the fear, the hiding, the running away from it, facing it, exorcising it, being ashamed of it, and, finally, being afraid of being afraid.”
